Atheist Bus

If you havent heard of it yet, click here to read about it.

I find this hillarious, because …. the British Humanist association is widely atheist. Richard Dawkins is like, the most famous atheist ever or something like that. So they decided to do this bus campaign in europe I think as a counter to some religious ads or something. For the record, I have no problem with this. I dont agree with the message obviously, but if it makes them sleep better at night knowing that theres a bus out there rolling along with their POV across the side, then whatever. I hope you see the truth one day, but if you choose not to accept it, thats your choice.  I am in no way outraged by this bus. What makes me laugh is the the slogan.

“There probably is no God…Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

The atheists… those who believe there is NO GOD, can’t even say for sure, that there is no God! Thats hillarious to me. If the agnostic association or whatever did it, it would better match their label. Its like, a Christian organization saying… Jesus is quite possibly the Messiah, so blahblahblah. It negates the term Christian. It makes the point dull. It makes me chuckle.

All joking aside and on a different note altogether, it is kind of sad. I dont know if they hold the belief that those who believe in God are worrywarts who do not enjoy life, or if they are speaking directly to the person who is in the process of being convicted by their sin, and contemplating looking to God. Its crazy the lengths gone through to keep people from knowing the Lord.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”  -Ephesians 6:11-13

  1. Nobody can say categorically that there is no God any more than you can categorically say there is a God. Atheists don’t believe there is a God but they shouldn’t be like theists and say things they can’t prove. That’s why saying “There probably is no God,” is the most reasonable way of putting it.

The most important thing is that people don’t worry about all that stuff.

Nice colour scheme, by the way.

  2. I have a book called “The Dawkins Effect”
it’s apologetic, and i think you might like it… i’m pretty sure it pwns Dawkins.

i laughed out loud when i read the slogan which is hardly atheist. I take a math course on logic and this bus slogan is definitely “invalid”

    There is a God – (mono)theist
There might be a God – agnostic
There is not a God – Atheist
There might not be a God – AGNOSTIC

who makes a bus fleet? really.

“As surely as i live,” says the Lord, “every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.”

Let’s pray their first time won’t be on the day of Judgment

  3. Aaron, the irony of a Christian criticizing an atheist slogan for being logically invalid is hilarious. You haven’t actually stated why you think the bus slogan is logically invalid but in any event, I predict you’re going to fail your logic course!

What you have listed are *beliefs*. Atheists don’t KNOW there is no god. We believe that (on the balance of probabilities) there is no god. Saying there probably is no god is certainly an atheist slogan. Whether theists agree or not is irrelevant. I don’t tell you how you should express your beliefs so how about showing us the same courtesy?

  4. I am not smart enough to argue my point. Lets just put it out there now.

The post was not about whether or not its ok to put your pov on the side of a bus. I dont really care either way. It in no way changes my beliefs as much as “religious” bus ads change the beliefs of those who dont believe in that religion.

But isnt the key in the word atheist?? doesnt the latin prefix “a” mean without??? (thank you 10th grade english. shout out to miss faunce!) so, if what maria says is true (and i think it is, because of the websites i float around on every day), then maybe “atheist” is not the best lable to use describe that belief system. Especially if the argument is that no one can truly be an atheist.

Yeah, agnostic doesnt quite have the same ring to it, but you are what you are.

  5. you can look up stuff dawkins says about aliens and stuff. its out there, IMO.

also, I totally agree Aaron. Let’s pray it is before judgement. THis isnt about people. its not people who is behind this, which is why i posted the verses from ephesians. its much more than that. The spiritual world is much darker than we can ever imagine, obviously stacked up against the “Judeo-Christian” God. “Intelligence”, and “wisdom of this world” wins on the surface, but the wisdom of man is foolishness to God. We have faith, and we know the truth through the supernatural that is the transforming power and grace of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. If anyone is looking for an argument for God that appeals only to the mind, it doesnt exist, because faith is more than that. No, I cant prove God exists, but that does not mean that I dont know beyond a shodow of a doubt that he does. I believe the world is more than surface, and since you can only “prove” surface, to me that makes the scientific method an inadequate tool to use for completely understanding the world around me.

anyway, thanks for your comments so far!

and Aaron, i think youll do just fine in your logic class despite what em-er Jem says 😉

  6. haha thanks jess. i still think bus slogans were in a spirit of retaliation, and THAT’S what i don’t like. not atheists themselves. i have atheist freinds and i love them just the same.

oh and ps… I am going to get an A in that math class. it’s the coolest math course i’ve ever taken. i just took another exam this past week and i pretty much pwned it.

    i love you!

  7. I see where the atheist’s claim is that the probability is that there is no God and that it can’t be proven. Well, I agree that one can’t 100% prove that God exists, but I do think the evidence that God exists is beyond reasonable doubt. I can recommend a great book about the subject: “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be An Atheist,” by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek. Every true atheist I’ve met (and I talked to one last night) actually does believe in a god – their own self. The atheist even admitted to me last night that he is indeed his own god because he is bound to no one but himself, has no responsibility to anyone other than himself, etc. Pitiful. Most pitiful of all is that he stated he will vote for Obama because Obama wants free college for everyone; when I asked him how and when a college education was a right guaranteed by the Constitution, he said that if the government gave everyone free college education then there would be fewer Christians because supposedly statistics show that the more educated people are the less likely they are to hold superstitious religious beliefs. So what he really wants is government indoctrination centers to make sure everyone is an atheist! And then he began preaching tolerance………………………….
